据保护区工作人员介绍，2006年花坪保护区开展综合科学考察期间，广西植物研究所科研团队首次发现紫毛兜兰，花坪保护区是紫毛兜兰在广西唯一已知的分布点。2008年我国南方遭遇严重雨雪冰冻灾害时，花坪保护区内的紫毛兜兰遭受毁灭性灾难。在近期的考察中，花坪保护区的紫毛兜兰种群再次被发现，但仍未恢复到受灾前的规模。
